ICAR Institutes or CPCs

ICAR’s Contribution through Clean Plant Centres (CPCs)

Under the Clean Plant Program, nine ICAR institutes will function as CPCs, specializing in specific fruit crops based on their expertise and regional relevance. These institutes will undertake the following responsibilities to achieve the program’s objectives:

  1. Hazard Analysis and Diagnostics Development: CPCs will conduct hazard analyses and develop advanced diagnostic protocols to identify and manage viruses and other pathogens.
  2. Quarantine and Therapy: Both domestic and imported planting materials will undergo quarantine and therapeutic treatments to ensure they are pathogen-free.
  3. Diagnostic Testing and R&D: Cutting-edge diagnostic testing will be conducted, alongside research and development to enhance testing techniques and ensure efficiency.
  4. Foundation Material Management: The CPCs will maintain and distribute clean nucleus or mother plant materials (G1) to certified nurseries for multiplication.
  5. Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs): Each CPC will develop and implement comprehensive SoPs to ensure uniformity in operations and quality standards.
  6. Capacity Building and Knowledge Enhancement: ICAR institutes will spearhead efforts to strengthen stakeholder capacities, including nursery operators, farmers, and researchers.
