Clean plant centers established
Under the project, it is proposed to develop eight clean plant centers (CPCs) across India in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The clean plant centers will keep mother plants free from viruses and virus-like pathogens so that nurseries can propagate disease-free planting materials from CPC’s generation 1 (G1) block. The backup block of selected crops will be established in a location different from the main CPC. The following activities will be conducted under Output 2:
- Develop standard operating procedures of CPC and diagnostic testing protocols
- Establish and maintain at least eight CPCs across India
- CPC staff capacity building
- Additional research and development program.
